Inaugural Montana State Elk Calling Championships Coming to Boulder
We are excited to partner with Toyota to bring Montana the inaugural RMEF State Elk Calling Championships. This competition will be tied to our annual member and volunteer Summer Rendezvous, where we gather to celebrate RMEF's success here in Montana. This event is great for the community of Boulder and we could not have chosen a better spot, located so close to the heart of some of Montana's best elk country.
Contestants are required to register online and must be pre-registered by 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21. There will be a mandatory meeting for all contestants at 11a.m. on June 22. The contest will begin at 1 p.m. .
Additionally, there will be a presentation ceremony Saturday night at the "RMEF Elk Country Fun Night" at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, where contestant are welcome stay for dinner and a fun evening with free games, raffles and a barbecue dinner. Those not competing are welcome to attend for $10.
The RMEF Montana State Elk Calling Championships, powered by Toyota, will have cash prizes for champions in each division, as well as cash prizes for second and third place finishers in the adult division and non-cash prizes for second and third place finishers in the youth and peewee divisions. There will not be a "professional division" so individuals who own a calling business, work as a calling sales calling representative, ambassador, demonstrator or in any official capacity, as determined by RMEF, will not be allowed to enter this amateur contest. Hunting guides or outfitters are also considered professionals and not allowed to compete.
Contestants and the general public are welcome to join us for the entire weekend if they would like. On Friday morning, RMEF will host a fence removal project which will increase the local elk herd's ability to move freely among its habitat. On Friday night, we have the wild game potluck competition and Saturday includes several seminars, presentations and even a 3D archery course setup for our attendees to enjoy. Overall, it’s a great weekend with great people who have a passion for elk and elk country.

Only vocal calling or sounds produced by handheld or breath-operated instruments may be used. Contestants will have two 30 second calling sessions. One session for cow and calf calls, followed by a 30 second break, followed by the second session of bull calls. Judges will score each calling session from behind a screen that completely prevents them from seeing or identifying the contestants. This screen will be near the calling site.
No professional division or professionals are allowed. Any entrant who owns a calling business or works as a sales representative, ambassador, demonstrator or any official capacity, as determined solely by RMEF is not allowed in this amateur contest. Hunting outfitters and guides are also considered professionals and cannot participate. Contest officials reserve the right to reclassify contestants for the appropriate division.
