Recently, RMEF Volunteer Scott Madden of Livingston Montana came across a cow elk calf entangled in a barbed wire fence. He quickly sprang to action and it took him nearly 30 minutes to free her from an almost certain fate.

The video below shows her crossing the road in front him and heading back to the main herd of about 300-400 head.

When asked about the experience Scott replied: “It felt good! I felt I needed to try to get her out of that fence and free her from a very bad situation. I hunt these animals, But I also care about them and their wellbeing.”

Well put Scott and well done! We are certain this calf is very thankful calf!

We cannot thank ALL of our RMEF Volunteers enough for their selfless efforts to protect the elk and elk country that we love!
